SHORT-EARED OWL

June 2004 - Here is the landscape which greets visitors upon their arrival in Polar Bear Provincial Park - 12 kilometres of flat tundra stretching north to the coast of Hudson Bay.  The sign in the foreground stands on a raised ridge roughly 9 metres above sea level; most of the land beyond is even lower, and is more wet than dry in many places.  (Photo by Marcel Gahbauer)
