RESEARCH

SHORT-EARED OWL

PROJECT OUTLINE

MRF is undertaking a long-term research program to address conservation concerns regarding the Short-eared Owl, including toxicology, habitat management, site fidelity, and dispersal/migration patterns.

The first phase of this program, focusing on documenting the breeding and wintering Short-eared Owl populations in southern Ontario, was launched in May 2003.  This work continues, and volunteers are invited to take part - click here for information on how you can assist with the research.  In 2006, MRF launched the second phase of research, studying Short-eared Owls using satellite telemetry.
